Blue cheese, known as blue mold cheese in the Netherlands, is a special type of cheese that is characterized by the presence of blue veins. These veins are created by the growth of Penicillium molds, which are added to the cheese during the production process.

The texture can vary from creamy and spreadable to firm and crumbly, depending on the specific type and ripening time of the cheese. For example, our Villa Blue is a deliciously mild, soft blue cheese. The Saint Agur, on the other hand, is an intense, spreadable blue cheese.

    How do you ship blue cheese?

    Like all of our cheese, blue cheese is also freshly cut. If it is a semi-hard cheese such as our Chevretta Blue cheese, it is cut and then vacuum-sealed. The soft, spreadable blue cheese such as Saint Agur is cut, weighed and then placed in a resealable container. This container closes well, so that the odor of this cheese is minimally spread.

    Tip: store the cheese in the refrigerator, but let the cheese come to room temperature an hour before serving for the best taste experience!
