Twisca Sheep Cheese is a traditional North Holland cheese, made from 100% sheep's milk. This cheese is known for its creamy texture, nutty flavour and high nutritional value. Thanks to the high protein and vitamin content, Twisca is not only tasty, but also nutritious. The tall shape of the cheese ensures optimal ripening, which contributes to the full, refined flavour.
Origin of Twisca Sheep Cheese
The milk for Twisca comes from the Westfriesedijk sheep farm of Nico Verduin, located in North Holland. This farm has around 700 Frisian dairy sheep, which produce an average of 450 litres of milk per year. There are only 7,000 of these special sheep in the whole of the Netherlands.
The sheep graze on 70 hectares of natural land, rich in salty influences from water and sea air. This unique landscape provides grass with a rich composition, which makes the milk - and therefore the cheese - extra tasty. All the feed is grown in-house, which means the farm not only guarantees quality, but also shows its commitment to animal welfare and sustainability.
How do you use Twisca sheep's cheese?
Twisca sheep's cheese is wonderfully versatile and easy to combine in the kitchen. Thanks to its creamy, nutty flavour, this cheese comes into its own in both cold and hot dishes. A few ideas:
On the cheese board: Combine with grapes, nuts and fig chutney.
Toasted sandwich with red onion: Top sturdy bread with Twisca and thin rings of red onion. Bake until golden brown in a sandwich maker or pan.
Pear and walnut salad: Mix mixed lettuce with pear slices, walnuts and cubes of Twisca. Add a honey-mustard dressing.
Vegetable casserole: Layers of potato, courgette and pepper with cooking cream and grated Twisca. Put in the oven until everything is golden brown.
Grate over pasta: Replace Parmesan with Twisca for a creamy twist.
Twisca is also a tasty alternative for people who cannot tolerate cow's milk. In short: a cheese that will surprise you time and time again in every meal!
