    History of Passchendaele

This company is founded by the couple Romain Donck (1898-1984) and Germaine Spruytte (1896-1985). Passchendaele was in the middle of the battlefield during the First World War and the family fled to Normandy and ran a hotel-restaurant in Cormeilles. Germaine Spruytte's brother was married in France and produced his cheese there after the war.

Married in 1926, the couple started producing their own cheese - on their newly built farm - on 's Graventafelstraat. It soon became too small and they moved to a new building on the other side of the street in 1936. The building is still there and is now called The Old Cheese Factory.
